Complete Ayurveda for IBS Course
Part 9:
Long-Term Healing and IBS Recovery
Stop Thinking Too Small About Healing
Your IBS isn’t just about food intolerances, stress, or a ‘sensitive gut’—it’s a sign that your whole system is out of balance.
In the West, we often define health as “not sick”. If nothing is obviously wrong, you’re “healthy.” But Ayurveda sees it differently. True health isn’t just the absence of symptoms—it’s the presence of deep vitality and inner balance.
Sushruta, one of the great Ayurvedic sages, defined health as:
🌀 Sama Dosha – Balanced doshas
🔥 Sama Agni – Strong, steady digestion
💧 Sama Dhatu – Nourished body tissues
🚰 Sama Mala Kriya – Proper elimination
🧘 Prasanna Atma, Indriya, Manas – Joyful soul, clear senses, peaceful mind
By this standard, “not having IBS symptoms today” doesn’t mean you’re fully well. Weak digestion, fragile tissues, or unresolved mental-emotional imbalance still signal that healing is needed.
So in this lesson, we’re going beyond digestion to talk about the Dhatus—your body’s tissues—and how healing your gut is just the beginning.
The 7 Dhatus: Your Body is Built from Your Digestion
In Ayurveda, your body is composed of seven tissue layers, called Dhatus. Each layer is formed from the nourishment of the one before it:
Rasa (Plasma/Lymph): Hydration, circulation, basic nourishment
Rakta (Blood): Oxygen delivery, vitality
Mamsa (Muscle): Structure, strength, motion
Meda (Fat): Lubrication, insulation, energy reserves
Asthi (Bone): Strength, skeletal structure
Majja (Nerve Tissue & Marrow): Cognition, immunity, resilience
Shukra (Reproductive Tissue): Vital energy, reproduction, creativity
When digestion is weak, these tissues are poorly nourished.
IBS & Dhatu Weakness:
Chronic digestive dysfunction can ripple outward and affect everything from energy levels to mood, immunity, skin, and hormone balance.
Examples:
Fatigue → Weak Rasa (plasma/ lymph)
Anemia → Weak Rakta (blood cells)
Muscle loss → Weak Mamsa (muscle)
Dry skin → Weak Meda (fat)
Joint pain → Weak Asthi (bone)
Anxiety → Weak Majja (nervous system)
Hormonal issues → Weak Shukra/ Arthava (reproductive system)
You don’t just “have IBS”—you’re seeing early signs of depletion throughout your entire system. Reversing it requires rebuilding from the root.
🛠️ How We Heal: The Three-Stage Process
Nurture Your Agni – Strengthen digestion so that tissues can be properly formed
Eliminate Ama – Clear out accumulated toxins
Strengthen the Dhatus – Build lasting, resilient tissue to prevent future disease
This is where real healing happens—not just managing symptoms, but rebuilding your body at the cellular level.
💥 What Weakens Tissues in the First Place?
Yes, poor digestion. But also:
Chronic stress
Poor sleep
Emotional repression
Mental ama (unprocessed thoughts & feelings)
Your mind directly influences your body’s ability to digest, build, and repair.
The good news? Everything you’ve learned in this course—about food, herbs, movement, breath, routines, and rest—supports Dhatu-level healing.
🌱 The Benefits of Deep, Holistic Healing
When you heal at this level:
Your energy returns
Your skin clears
Your hormones rebalance
Your immune system strengthens
Your clarity, confidence, and sense of self deepen
Ayurveda is essentially the original science of epigenetics—it shows you how to influence the way your body expresses health or disease.
You’re not locked into IBS. You can change your biology—starting with digestion.
✨ Client Success Stories
I’ve worked with clients who reversed long-term IBS in a matter of weeks to months:
One client had IBS-D for years—after two weeks on a personalized plan, 80–90% of symptoms were gone. Three months later, her digestion, skin, and menstrual cycle were all back in balance and she said she’d never felt better in her life (at 43 y/o!).
Others saw skin clarity, muscle strength, or mental focus return just by addressing digestion and the Dhatus.
This is the power of working at the root.
